Healing through Art is an artistic event where the voices and stories of victims/survivors of sexual violence will be centralized. Our aim is to create a safer space where our voices can be heard and where we engage with the topic of sexual violence through various art forms as a healing practice.
Healing through Art is organized for and by victims/survivors. Since we are dealing with performances about sexual violence and related traumas, some performers will be using trigger warnings when needed. We kindly remind all visitors of the event to respect our agency, our boundaries and to not show up expecting us to educate you on how to end sexual violence, or to elaborate on our traumas for visitors’ entertainment.
There will be poetry, spoken word, storytelling, music and a live painting session. This will be followed by an open mic for those who feel like sharing their art and/or sexual violence-related projects and research.
We will start the evening with a communal dinner. Everybody is welcome to join, entrance is free, but signup is required for the dinner. Please sign up before Wednesday March 18, 13:00. For the main program no signup is required.
Doors open: 18:00
Open mic: 20:30-21:30
VOX-POP is accessible for wheelchairs. For questions about accessibility of the event, please contact the organizers/hosts Agathe Cherbit-Langer firstname.lastname@example.org & Alfrida (Alfie) Martis email@example.com.
Healing through Art is an event organized by the Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) Team. Centering the voices and needs of victims/survivors of sexual violence is an important step towards healing and improving social safety. The CDO Team consults with the UvA’s Social Safety Taskforce on social safety issues; acting as a conduit between students, staff and management; helps prevent sexual violence, while also supporting victims/survivors through workshops and trainings for staff, students, and study/student associations.
