Jurjen Alkema (he/him) is an audiovisual designer and specializes in video projection. He uses video mapping and light to create site or stage specific visual worlds. As a designer and as an independent artist, he worked for for theater productions, festivals, concerts and museums, including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, light festival The Hague Highlights, the Metropole Orkest, ASKO Ensemble, ALF, Van Gogh Museum, Light night Leeds, Luminale Frankfurt, and Oranjewoud Festival. Over the past years, he has developed his own style of music performance with a robot orchestra. On June 22nd, he will give an electro-acoustic mini-concert with his own robots.
Miche O'higgins (she/her), also known as Slippery Instincts, is an artist, writer and community organizer working across performance, costume design and game design. She is co-facilitator of Queer Futures Lab: a community dedicated to exploring experimental writing practices that negotiate an expanded notion of authorship to explore queer futures of bodies, ecology, technology and community. Her interdisciplinary studio practice, Lab for Slippery Instincts, seeks instances where the boundaries of the natural become muddy, forging strange and grotesque new intimacies with the synthesized ecologies of the anthropocene.
Through embodied and performative methodologies, her research explores the ways in which our relationship to the unstable ecologies of both our bodies and the environment is constructed by technology. In doing so, she proposes experiences and interventions that engage with the agency of the non-human across alien timescales. Weaving between drag, speculative histories and multisensory science fictions, finding ways for immersive storytelling and participatory performance to open space for vulnerability and radical togetherness is at the center of this ongoing practice.
HUISTAAK is a group of friends who met at the HKU (Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht; Art Academy Utrecht). We could say they are producers, engineers, composers, sound designers and programmers, but you have probably forgotten about that once they wreck the stage. HUISTAAK comes together with only one goal: to get your body moving. So skip your chores, cancel your boring friend and come join us for a dance with HUISTAAK.
