Wintergasten with Michael Thomas: The aesthetics of a social life
In collaboration with VOXPOP, the Amsterdam Philosophy Association is delighted to present an interview featuring Jens Rummens, an enthusiastic philosophy student, engaging in conversation with Assistant Professor Michael Thomas. Thomas is known for his academic contributions such as: “Sensibility in Section 80: Kendrick Lamar’s Poetics of Problems” (2019) and “Reading the Sensual in James Baldwin’s Giovanni’s Room” (2023). In this intellectual exploration, Thomas will curate and discuss video fragments that have shaped his academic journey. Michael Thomas
Michael L. Thomas is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy in Critical Cultural Theory at the University of Amsterdam working in Social Aesthetics and the Philosophy of Race. He was formerly a Humboldt Foundation Research Fellow at the JFK Institute for North American Studies at the Freie Universität Berlin and Assistant Professor of Philosophy and Coordinator of Africana Studies at Susquehanna University. He has published work in Philosophy and Literature, Social Theory, the Philosophy of Race, and North American Studies.
