Are you a budding cultural programmer? Do you want to learn how to create meaningful events and exhibitions? Then VOX-POP is looking for you!

Become a student programmer at VOX-POP!

As a student programmer, you will have the opportunity to work in a team with other students to organise a CLOSE UP evening every 6-7 weeks. In this recurring programme, you will be challenged to highlight a socio-cultural issue of your choice in an inventive way. Under the guidance of the VOX-POP team and various professionals from the cultural sector, you will learn to moderate, curate, design, do social media and produce a programme from start to finish. Are you excited to turn your creative ideas into exciting programmes? Then continue reading!

What will you do?

During VOX-POP's talent development programme, you will work with the other student programmers on your own series of programmes, culminating in an exhibition at the end of the year. You will choose your own themes, develop the content, find speakers and performances, make event scripts, take responsibility for the communication, design and promotion of the programmes, and make sure that the CLOSE UP on the night itself is organised to perfection.

Who are we looking for?

Enthusiastic and curious students (all types of studies) who want to learn how to put together a topical and stimulating programme and who want to co-host the CLOSE UP series for a period of one year (September 2024- July 2025). To do this, you should be available for 4-8 hours weekly. A basic understanding of Dutch is useful, but not necessary to take part in the talent programme.

What do we offer?

As part of the talent development programme, you will be offered various master classes and inspiration evenings to develop your skills as a programme maker. You will have great independence and responsibility in creating your own programmes, and a lot of freedom regarding your choice of topics. The working environment is very informal and during the year you will build a network within the university and the Amsterdam cultural sector.

Interested?

Are you bursting at the seams with ideas for programmes and do you recognize yourself in the profile sketched out above? Then we would love to meet you! Please send us a s hort motivation letter and your CV before 22 July via voxpop@uva.nl, addressed to Imme de Bie/Cleo Thomas. Interviews will take place the first weeks of August.

About VOX-POP and the CLOSE UP series

As the creative space of the Faculty of Humanities, VOX-POP organizes and hosts innovative and inspiring events to bridge the gap between academia and the city, between art and science, and between culture and society. Since 2016, an annually rotating group of talented students are given the opportunity to create their own programmes in the form of the CLOSE UP series, in which they choose their own topics and approaches to academia and society.
