Placemaking

Placemaking is an exciting form of education, in which students work on behalf of a third party (client). Work is done according to the Design Thinking method. This means that after an empathy and research phase, a report is produced. The working process then continues with the generation of ideas for the solution of the issue (with the whole group). The chosen solution is then shaped to enable testing with the public or stakeholders. This is the most creative part of Placemaking. The intervention can consist of an object, a directed conversation, a digital prototype or a totally different plan to be implemented. This test phase should show how the proposed solution is received.

In addition, everyone contributes to the beautifully designed website:  https://placemakingamsterdam.nl/ This is where all the projects of Sciencepark, REC and UniversiteitsKwartier are summarised.

The presentation on 15 December

The presentation of all this on 15 December is in the hands of two groups of Placemakers. Bachelors (all FGW) engaged in assignments on the University Quarter, intertwining in a very interesting way the previously conducted Placemaking UK focused on theatres and the (new) UB. Placemaking for Conservation is an English-language master's elective aimed at putting heritage and art on the agenda in public space. They will show which cases they worked on and how they want to get these 'in the public and managers' eye'. The theme of VOX-POP on 15 December will be education, but at the same time it will be a stage for analysing the unprecedented potential of the University Quarter.
