XXL-Stitching Art Project by Studio Koekoek

During the Warm Welcome Week, you can learn the art of XXL stitching with Studio Koekoek. Forget fiddling with a needle, this is something completely different.  In pairs on a large mesh with thick ecological threads we will create a joint embroidery artwork! No experience? No problem! The professional embroiderers at Studio Koekoek will quickly help you get started or match you with someone who has already mastered embroidery. After the Warm Welcome Week ends, our joint artwork will be on display in VOX-POP!

About Studio Koekoek

Analogue city photography workshop with Jonne Lucia

Go back in time and learn how to take photos with an analogue camera! Each camera has 36 photos and 36 unique moments to capture. Learn to pay attention and to take photos consciously. Starting with a theory session, you will learn photographic elements that you can use during a photo walk to take even more creative photos of Amsterdam's city centre. The photos taken during the workshop will be exhibited at VOX-POP at the end of the week!

About Jonne Lucia

The workshop will be taught by Jonne Lucia. From her studio in LYCKA in Amsterdam Nieuw-West, she works on documentary stories, artist portraits and urban photography. She also teaches classes and workshops on (analogue) photography, on journaling and on realising creative goals.

AI Mixtape Mashup workshop

Join us for a mixtape workshop, where we merge AI music and sound generation tools with old-school mixtape creation. This workshop offers a hands-on experience to explore the nostalgic art of mixtape crafting using second-hand cassettes sourced from secondhand stores. With the most innovative AI tools we will dive into voice generation, applying effects and even recording our own sounds to add some personal touch to the mixtapes. The final mixes can be recorded onto cassettes or saved digitally, complete with personalized self made labels. We will wrap up the session with a listening party! This workshop is designed for both newcomers and audiophiles looking to delve into the world of sound and DJing, in a fun and creative environment.

About Marcin Sky

Marcin Sky is a music producer, technologist and sound artist. Whether it's fixing reel-to-reel recorders, mixing albums or performing in VR, he finds inspiration in exploring intersections between music, technology and the world. His first experience of cassette mixtapes was through his older sister's cassette collection. Now his artistic practice involves working with fermentation data and designing his own systems for electronic music performances. He is curious about how we can reconnect with our surroundings and build stronger bonds through music creation - "What really interests me is using sound to create awareness in processes that are otherwise not audible". Marcin is a strong believer in the idea that exploring and sharing music is the ultimate way to connect with others.

About Nice Flaps

Nice Flaps is an artist initiative formed with the unanimous aim to gather and observe together; to provide time and space to concentrate, to look, to be; without an outcome in mind other than contemplation itself. We offer two hour, non-taught, experimental drawing sessions that we host in different locations around The Hague. We invite artists to create works that can exist within a session and be accessed through drawing. Nice Flaps is co-run by artists Annemarie Wadlow (UK) and Alejandra López Martínez (ES).

Ongoing: Visit the pop-up Klimaatmuseum (Climate Museum)

The Klimaatmuseum brings together artists, scientists and students from the University of Amsterdam (UvA) around the one topic that affects us all: the climate crisis. Works of art and interactive installations bring the UvA’s latest climate research to life. You gain more insight into the problems and solutions of the climate crisis and discover how the various fields of research are connected. You will also be inspired to take action yourself for a better climate. Together, we will turn the tide.
