Free creative workshops at VOX-POP
The first edition of ArtiShock, a workplace for chaos and creativity, coincides with the last day of Anna Theunissen's exhibition The city as a black box. The exhibition shows a video installation incorporating random and surreal street scenes, which show the alienation you sometimes experience in the streets. Inspired by Anna's video collages, you get to work and create a work about your own street experiences.
The workshop is hosted by Maaike Brink who joined VOX-POP last year as a student programmer and by Anna herself. After the workshop there are free drinks.
As a photographer Anna Theunissen combines candid portraits of her housemates, neighbors, and friends with her street observations. By blending the dynamics of street life with the individuals she encounters Anne create stories in which she seeks for the nuances that fail to characterise the dividing between private and public. The city serves as a stage for these chance encounters, where we meet each other in unforeseen and imaginative ways. In Anna's work, the people become characters in a world of fleeting connections and uncertain engagements.
Despite the lack of clarity in our relationships, we remain endlessly connected as these moments come together, fall apart, and fade away with time. Each instance sets the stage for the next unexpected meeting.

Maaike Brink (2002) is studying Cultural Studies at the University of Amsterdam. After graduating from high school, which profiled itself as a preparatory course for art school, she decided that she was not an artist. Nevertheless, making art has remained a great passion. Teaching creative workshops is something she occasionally does at VOX-POP. An aftermath of her time on the Student Committee, when she also supervised workshops several times.
The workshop starts at 4:30 pm and lasts until 6:00 pm. Entrance is free, but you must register. You can do that using the link below. Location: VOX-POP, Binnengasthuisstraat 9, 1012ZA, Amsterdam.
