Free creative workshops on Thursdays at VOX-POP
During ArtiShock #4 you will get to work on a zine with an activist theme. A zine is a selfmade and published booklet, originating in the DIY punk scene in the 70s in America. A way to tell your own story or share information with a selected audience, outside of existing publishing systems. Usually a mix of photos, text, collages, drawing, but it can be anything and everyone can make a zine.
In this workshop we will start with a short intro on the history of (activist) zines and will discover the possibilities of the medium. Afterwards you will get to work with all kinds of different material to make your own zine from the theme of “activism.” Activism can have many different shapes and so can your zine: you can tell a personal story, share tips on safe protesting or self-care after a demo, disseminate information about a political crisis or dive into the past to give us some inspiration in the present. We will end with some drinks.
Aike Jansen (Amsterdam, 1997, she/her) likes to share stories – about everyday moments in the city, about food or books she reads. What it is like to make and eat a simple Italian pasta together; or how a war keeps keeps your life in a tight grip through your phone screen. Observations she prefers to capture in a mix of photo and text, in collages and in zines. As a freelancer she works in the cultural sector as creative producer, mostly with youth theatre collective DEGASTEN. Here she is busy facilitating theatre lessons and projects for young people, and communicates about their projects and productions in various ways.
Participation in the workshop is free, but due to limited capacity you need to register in advance via the registration form below. We start at 16:00 and end at 17:30 with drinks. Location: VOX-POP, first floor BG3, Binnengasthuisstraat 9.
