Wat are the politics of home and home-making? Op 20 mei opent socioloog Jan Willem Duyvendak de dag met een lunchlezing over thuis zijn en thuis voelen. In het boek ‘The Politics of Home. Belonging and Nostalgia in Western Europe and the United States’ beargumenteert hij hoe thuis voelen in eerste instantie een publieke aangelegenheid is en daarmee ook een rol speelt in het politieke debat. In deze lezing gaat hij in op het concept “thuis voelen,” de spanningsvelden die het met zich meebrengt, en de relatie van thuis tot migratie en mobiliteit. Kom langs en geniet tijdens de lezing van een lekkere lunch verzorgd door Peach Plant Based Kitchen. Lezing en lunch zijn helemaal gratis en voor alle geïnteresseerden toegankelijk.

Jan Willem Duyvendak

Jan Willem Duyvendak is Distinguished Research Professor of Sociology at the University of Amsterdam (UvA). He received his master’s degrees in both sociology and philosophy at the University of Groningen. His main fields of research currently are belonging, urban sociology, 'feeling at home' and nativism. In 2013-2014, Duyvendak was Distinguished Fellow at the Advanced Research Collaborative at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. In Spring 2016 he was Research Fellow at the Paris Institute for Advanced Studies. From July 2017 - July 2019 he was Executive Committee Chair at Council for European Studies. Since January 1st 2018 he is director of the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences at the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (NIAS-KNAW).
