Faculty's Iftar

On 12 March we invite you to join us for an Iftar at VOX-POP! The Iftar dinner will begin once the sun has set. We would like to offer a welcoming space for everyone who is practicing Ramadan to break their fast and share this ritual with us and your fellow students or colleagues. The event is open to non-Muslims, everyone from the UvA (staff and students) and residents from the area as well. This event is organized in collaboration with the Faculty of Humanities, Arabic Language and Culture and the Faculty’s Diversity Office.

Practical Information

This iftar will take place on 12 March in VOX-POP. The doors will be open from 17:30 and we start with some welcoming speeches at 18:00, by:

  • Our Faculty's dean Marieke de Goede
  • Dr. Liana Saif, who is specialised in Islamic esotericism and teaches different courses at the faculty around this topic
  • Student Aya Bennis who co-organizes this iftar with us 

Entrance is free, but registration via the registration link is necessary. We have reached the maximum visitors amount for this event. However, you can sign up for our waiting list via the link on this website. If any spots will open up, we'll get in contact with you.

If you have already registered and your plans change, please send an email to voxpop@uva.nl so we can let someone else join. We have a limited amount of spaces and we want to maximise the amount of attendees.

The food will be provided. There are also prayer rooms. If you want to make use of them, please bring your own prayer rug. 

The speeches are in English.
