How much space is left for subjective experiences and emotional expression in a setting that tends to prioritize 'objectivity', rationality and intellect? Together with Diversity Talks we explore the often overlooked yet vital role of subjectivity and emotions within the academic world.

VOX-POP and Diversity Talks present ‘’Emotional Realities in Academia’’, a panel talk and dialogue about building bridges between personal narratives and academic theories. Particularly in humanities and social sciences we learn about systems of inequalities and exclusion, but does academia offer the necessary space for emotions and subjective realities? And what is the importance of personal experiences in understanding systems of inequalities and exclusion?

During this programme we invite speakers from various positions and backgrounds to collaboratively build bridges between the personal and the academic. They'll address critical questions about how emotions are navigated, expressed, and even suppressed in academic environments, and what this means for inclusivity, mental health, and productivity. Through dialogue we create space for intimacy, vulnerability and emotion as it helps us find new ways to understand the world that we live in, as well as understand ourselves and each other through both personal and theoretical lenses.

For whom?
Whether you're a student, researcher, or educator, this event will challenge conventional ideas and open up a dialogue about creating spaces where emotions are acknowledged as part of the academic experience. It's an opportunity to reflect on how we can foster more humane and emotionally aware academic environments.

Join us for an eye-opening evening that will have you rethinking the role of emotions in your academic journey. Speakers will be anounced soon!
