During this ArtiShock session, we begin with an interactive mini-lecture on the history of pole dancing and the question of whether it is recognised as an art form. We will explore how themes such as nudity, performance, and sport influence the way pole dance is perceived, and how the debate around pole dance as an artistic discipline continues to evolve. Join the conversation and share your perspective!

After a short break, you’ll get the chance to experience pole dancing yourself in a brief workshop. Suzy Niamut, two-time Dutch pole-dancing champion, will teach you the basics, including moves like the pole sit, the chopper, and the fireman!

About Suzy Niamut

Suzy began pole dancing in 2014, after receiving eight pole-dance lessons from her sister as a birthday gift. What started as a fun activity quickly grew into her greatest passion. Even though she struggled at first, she soon discovered how enjoyable pole dancing is—and what an amazing way it can be to stay active. For Suzy, the most beautiful part of pole dancing is pushing your boundaries and realising you are capable of far more than you ever imagined.

In 2018, she won the Dutch Pole Dancing Championship, a title she claimed again in 2022, earning a spot at the World Championships both times. Suzy has now been teaching for five years, and in addition to giving lessons, she regularly performs on stage in theatres across the Netherlands.
