My Invisible Truth, 2020
“The older I get, the more I realize that much of what influences us is invisible. This became the leading question in my work: In a world where we put so much weight on the visual aspect of our existence, what is our relationship with the invisible one? How does it affect us and how do we affect it?”
Believing in something greater than oneself tilts the perspective from ‘me, myself and I’ to the substantial and omnipotent. The decentering of oneself, stands in strong contrast to the society we live in today. A society that promotes gadgets and lifestyles which are solely focused on the reflection of ego, personal striving and benefit. ‘My Invisible Truth’ is a project reflecting the identity of humanity through its faith and trust in the invisible spiritual world. It displays the encounters of culture, community and the intimacy of an individual faith.
Through this work Lisbeth explores the impact faith has today on the lives of individuals and on entire communities around the world. It is a project which aims to shed a different light on a world we cannot see, holding great potential to connect humanity on a larger scale by providing hope and unity.
Lisbeth Luft (1993, DE) graduated from the Willem De Kooning Academy, Rotterdam in 2020. Lisbeth uses her portrait- and documentary photography as a tool to better understand cultural diversity and the dynamics of social life today. In her work she strives for rawness and genuine emotion while imperfections play an important role. By embracing what is different, her audience is offered a chance to change perspectives and question society-based values. ‘My Invisible Truth’ is part of a long term project dealing with the subject of faith, visualizing something invisible to the eye but with huge impact on human life around the planet.
