For four days, VOX-POP will transform into a place to drop in, stay awhile, and meet new people. There will be good food, a cosy living room space to relax in with games and a ping pong table, and a programme full of activities. All activities are free to join. Places are limited, so it’s first come, first served. Doors open every day at 16:00 and we close at 22:00.

Programme

16:00 - 18:30 Japanese ink painting workshop
16:30 - 18:30 Creating collages with Pauli Mast
20:00 - 22:00 Mario Kart with live game music

16:00 - 18:30 Japanese ink painting workshop

Discover the elegance and quiet beauty of traditional Japanese ink painting. Guided by artist and designer Soonhwa Kang, you will be introduced to the expressive brush techniques, natural materials, and philosophy of Sumi-e. More than a painting class, this workshop is an invitation to slow down, observe the essence of nature, and experience the meditative rhythm of ink and brush.

Using traditional materials such as Japanese ink, rice paper, and oriental brushes, you will learn to capture the spirit of bamboo: a timeless symbol of resilience, flexibility, and inner strength in East Asian culture. Along the way, Soonhwa will share insights from her artistic practice, shaped by her Japanese upbringing, Korean heritage, and years of exploring East Asian visual traditions.

No previous experience is required. Whether you are a complete beginner or simply curious about Japanese art and culture, this workshop offers a welcoming introduction to the timeless practice of Sumi-e.

16:30 - 18:30 Creating collages with Pauli Mast

Want to rediscover images in unexpected ways? Join visual artist and art educator Pauli for an afternoon of experimenting with paper, imagery, and composition. Pauli Mast (he/they) is a queer visual artist based in Amsterdam who works with paper-on-paper collages. Images are cut free from their familiar contexts and brought together into new, subtly surreal worlds. Themes of identity, sexuality, and imagination lie at the heart of their practice. Rather than presenting a fixed narrative, Pauli invites viewers to create their own meaning from what they see—to wander, make associations, and perhaps lose themselves for a moment. What once seemed familiar takes on a different resonance. Pauli’s collages do not ask for conclusions, but for attention. Everything is allowed to remain open.

20.00 - 22.00: Mario Kart in the University Library with live game music

Put on your racing gloves, because tonight we’re playing Mario Kart on the Wii! And to make it even more special, a live band will perform all the iconic sounds and music while we race. Expect bananas, lightning bolts, and Rainbow Road like you’ve never experienced it before: with real instruments and a full stereo sound.
